Your Place Afterschool

Jon Baker –

I feel that there is a need for teen services after school. In many cases, the average kid's needs are not addressed and they are allowed to "wander". Giving the average kid a place to use the after school time to improve themselves is unique. It serves those who are perceived to not need more. YPA lets girls do more.
I am motivated seeing the program work and the girls gain confidence.
I would recommend girls to attend YPA because it is a supportive place to make friends, help you discover who you are, and plan for the future.

Cindy Kroeger-I am involved in YPA because I was once a young girl in trouble. I did not have a support system to help me through my challenges in life. Academically and socially I lagged behind my peers. I did not have a sense of belonging anywhere in my life. I believed that I would never have the opportunities of other girls in my neighbor.  It was my 4th grade teacher that changed my life. She told me that I could be or do anything with hard work and had tenacity. With her commitment to me, as a teacher, I committed to her, but more importantly, I committed to myself.  This changed my life.   It takes just one person or one program to change the path of a life.

YPA is a program that offers young girls a place to belong and realize that they can accomplish any task by looking within and working hard.  In today's world it can be difficult to be accepted by our peers, society, and sometimes even our family.  Often the feeling of wanted to be accepted shapes our decisions and sometimes we don't really reach our full potential because we lack self esteem. YPA gives young women a chance to learn about themselves, gain confidence, and dream big.   The program is tailored to help each girl in a different way, as they each have different needs.  It is a safe place for girls to learn about their full potential and change their lives forever.

I am motivated with the success stories from YPA.  Listening to the girls talk about their success stories is amazing.  Their lives are changed forever in this program.  They might not realize it yet but when someone asks them, "What was one of the biggest influences of your success?", they will remember this program.

I would recommend girls to attend YPA because this program works.  Girls learn the full potential by working hard through commitment. Believing in ourselves opens doors that we can only open. Each girl that has attended the program walks away as a more self confident young lady.

Beth Kerwin -

I am involved because I believe in the program and I believe there is a great need for this program. Too many of our young ladies suffer from low self esteem or lack the confidence they need to succeed in life and this program offers a unique approach to helping these young ladies find and build upon their strengths.  Providing adult mentors to work with them one- on -one is hugely effective in a number of ways, particularly by having a trusted adult who is encouraging and supportive and a cheer leader for the young ladies..  They need people who believe in them and are there for them.  The staff and volunteers are invaluable and have been doing an outstanding job.

I am motivated because I know that this program can make a difference in the lives of these young ladies and can change the direction of their future path.  I have worked with teens for a number of years, including being a Big Sister, and I know that one person can make a difference, so imagine how effective this program can be and how many girls it can help!

I would recommend this program, because by design, it is for the development and success of our young ladies who need it so much and I believe we can make a difference.  And I believe in Anne who has a pure heart and a strong dedication to helping others.

I am involved in YPA primarily because in my professional life, I see young women who are uncertain of who they are and what they want from life. Further, I see young women who doubt their potential, don't want to make waves for others, and are easily swept aside. To me, that's a waste of talent. What motivates me is the desire for happiness and meaning. If I can help someone else, be it just a smile or otherwise, that makes me happy. My needs in life are quite simple, but having my actions be intentional and perhaps meaningful meets my needs. I would recommend that girls consider YPA because of the network of contacts and friends they can build to support themselves. Academic assistance, community action, bonding with people of diverse backgrounds, talents, and ages is the beginning of adult behavior, and can lead to life-long engagement.
